Summary

   There are three types of my blog posts. The first type is the composers. The second one is the whole soundtracks. The last one is the movie theme songs. The composers that I have introduced are Clint Mansell, X-Ray Dog, E.S Pothumus and Howard Leslie Shore. And the songs I have mentioned before are from the movies “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Titanic, Out of Africa, Flashdance, The Deer Hunter, Atonement, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Iron Man, Slumdog Millionaire, and Lord of the Ring.”

Above of, the topic I like the most is the soundtrack of the movie “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.” 

I have listen to this CD over again and again since my childhood. Every time I hear these songs, I can clearly visualize the movie plots and scenes, though I have never watched this movie before. I could see them fighting, I could heard their heart beatings. The music takes me into another imagery world and shows me a different view to appreciating the movie. 

Howard Leslie Shore

Howard Leslie Shore is a Canadian composer, and he is famous for his compositions for movie soundtracks. He has writen songs for more than eighty movies. How talented he is! These movie include Lord of Ring(I have introduced last week), Twilight, Hobbits, The Silent of the Limbs......and so on. Something interesting is that Shore had made background music for magic performance! It was fun.

Shore's music usually makes audience down and upset. However, the soundtrack of Lord of Ring really surprise all people. This composition is more fast and epic.
This music is"The Fellowship of the Ring" from movie"Lord of the Ring." It's a cute and beautiful song.

This is the music"Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold" from movie"the Hobbits." When listening to it, I feel my mind weight down. It may not sound beautiful, but actually, it's a great composition.

The soundtracks I introduce today are great. However, they are the seldom ones of Howard's compositions that I really like. Others are so strange and make me feel uncomfortable when listening to them.

The Academy Award of Merit(奧斯卡金像獎)- the Best Original Score

The Academy Award of Merit, known as the Oscars, is a famous annual ceremony. It was founded and organized by the Academic of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1929 (AMPAS美國電影藝術與科學學會). This ceremony is always held in Los Angeles, California. Since the 75th  the Oscars in 2002, the Dolby theater becomes the permanence state for holding the Oscars.

This week, I'll introduce some compositions of the Best Original Score.

Jai Ho-Slumdog Millionaire(貧民百萬富翁)

This music is the Best Original Score in 2008. It mixed the popular music and the original Indian music. Jai Ho is filled with the fast peat.The Pussy Pat Dog has adapted this song. Both of these two version are great and I love them.

May It Be-Lord of the Ring(魔戒首部曲-魔戒現身)

This music has won the Best Original Score in 2001. Its winning was out of everyone's expectations. Because this movie is the commeredia film(商業電影) from Hollywood. The judges of the Oscars usually tend to the other style of movies, instead of the commeredia films. However, the consequence made people surprise. 

This song is soothing and touching. If you are distressed and upset, listening to this song may help you relax.

While searching the information about the movies Slumdog Millionaire and Lord of the Ring, I found that these soundtracks of the two movies are so great!! I think I can introduce the whole soundtracks next week.

OST(插曲)

  In the past, I have introduced some composers, music of movie trailers, soundtracks and movie theme songs. This week, I'll show some pieces of OST(插曲) from movies. Unlike the theme songs, OST has less reputation in public. However, both the theme songs and the OST are worth appreciate.

Briony--Atonement,2008(贖罪)

This is the opening background music. It makes people feel nervous with the typing sound from Briony Tallis and the fearing sound from piano and the orchestra. And it ends with a sudden sound from opening the door. It was that Briony Tallis stopped typing the article when her mother suddenly open the door. This song completely matches the movie plots.

Merry Christmas Mr.Lawrence--Merry Christmas Mr.Lawrence,1983(俘虜)

This song is more popular than the movie, how strange it is!
But it can really touch your heart.

Iron Man

This song is more powerful than others. This background music releases when the iron man prepares his iron clothes and gets to wear it. I never see this movie before, but this song is great and I want to repeat it over again an again.

Three of My Favorite Movie Soundtracks

This week, I'll show you my favorite movie theme songs. Though they are made long time ago, all of these songs are still popular nowadays.
I think these soundtracks can clearly convey the affection from the movie. Some are touching, and some are gloomy, while these compositions are really referred as classical. I never watch these movies before, but it is fine that music will give people another surprising view to the movies. Hope you enjoy it!

This song let John Barry won the Oscar, and he has had five prizes of Oscar.
It is amazingly good. Although it is a little kind of sorrow at the beginning, I always feel that warm and peace are around me in the end.

Irene Cara-What a feeling(Flash dance閃舞)

Irene really has a strong voice:-) This song is aspiring, and I want to dance with the music when her voice and the fast rhythm appear.

Stanley Myers-Cavatina(The deer hunter越戰獵鹿人)

I like Cavatina the best! It deeply touches my heart every time I listen to it, especially there is no any sound in the midnight. Cavatina is the best medicine for soothing your mood when you are upset and depressed.

E.S Posthumus

   Hello, guys. My topic this week is"E.S Posthumus".
 
   "E.S" is the abbreviation of " experimental sounds." The meaning of" Posthumus" is "all things past." This group is founded by the brothers Helmut and Franz Vonlichten. They mix different styles of music and form a new appearance, like orchestra, rhythm from pop music and electronic music, are the main elements of their compositions. Sometimes they use the national instruments, and the strong tempo from drums makes the music epic and powerful.
 
   E.S Posthumus is inspired by Deep Forest, Enigma and Pythagorean Philosophy. The first sentence above the article is the classical saying by Pythagorean Philosophy and it has deeply influenced E.S.

   The most important thing about E.S. is that they never write any song for movie soundtracks! How cool they are!

   I love " Nara " so much! I think it's the best song from E.S. The orchestra states a mysterious atmosphere,  sometimes is smooth, but sometimes makes people feel nervous, like you're unfaithful to your husband or wife.

Titanic

Hello, everyone.Today I want to introduce the soundtrack of the renowned movie "Titanic." I think everyone will think of the theme song "My heart will go on" when it comes to this movie. However, other compositions are as touching as the theme song.
This album was produced by James Horner. The music was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and the Choristers of King's College, Cambridge. And the vocals are Celine Dion and Sissel Kyrkjeb, a Canadian singer and a Norwegian soprano.James Horner used the Bagpipes(蘇格蘭風笛) in his compositions to make music more touching.

"An Irish Party In Third Class"

Sissel's voice is so great! This scene was that Rose was survived, howeverm Jack was dead because he wanted to save Rose's life.
